Nagaland Police clarifies on video of IR personnel in Odisha walking after election duty

Kohima: SP Jajpur, Odisha regretts lapses and oversight, assures all logistic support

The Nagaland Police Department has issued a clarification on the video of IR Bn personnel in Jajpur, Odisha walking back to their camp in the wee hours of 5th June after a long day carrying out election duty because their transportation had not been provided.

The video, which has gone viral, shows the personnel walking at 1:25 am. The personnel state that their duty began at 8:00 am on 4th June and that no arrangements had been made to take them back to their camp. They also complain about not being provided food.

In the statement, the Department has said that the Nagaland IR Coy was deployed in Jajpur, Odisha on 4th June 2024 to maintain law and order during the vote counting process which got over at 11:30 pm.

“The IR personnel were apparently agitated since the vehicles that were to transport them back to their Coy Post did not report on time”, it said.

The Police Department informed that on the direction of PHQ, Kohima, the Commandant of the 14th NAP (IR) Bn, conducted an enquiry on the matter which revealed that due to overwhelming load of work, there was delay in providing the vehicles on time by the Jajpur District Police.

“The SP Jajpur, Odisha regretted the lapses and oversight and assured that all logistic support including sufficient transportation was provided and that corrective measures taken to ensure that such lapses do not take place in future”, it stated.

The scale of vehicle as mandated by Election Commission of India have been provided to the ‘F’ Coy of 14 NAP (IR) Bn, and PHQ is informed that all duty personnel of 14 NAP (IR) Bn deployed in Bhubaneswar and Jajpur are diligently performing their duty, the Department asserted.

Further, it assured that the Police Department is sensitive to the needs and requirements of the officers, men and women of Nagaland Police at all times and expeditious steps are always taken to ensure that basic minimum facilities are provided to its personnel in the discharge of bonafide duties at all times at all place both within and outside the State.
