Nagaland Police informs on arrest of ‘narco drug trafficker’ Bahar Uddin

Kohima: NP appreciates APO, AYO, DAYO, and other CSOs for actively assisting in ongoing investigation

Nagaland Police has on Tuesday informed on the arrest of a ‘major absconding accused’ named Bahar Uddin s/o Nur Uddin from Sonitpur, Assam in connection with the ongoing investigation of a criminal case. It also informed that two other persons were arrested from Dimapur, Nagaland and Imphal, Manipur respectively in relation with this case.

The Police have stated in a press release that Bahar Uddin is one of the major Narcotic Drug traffickers of the North East, “primarily operating from Dimapur Nagaland, with his supply chain having upward procurement and trafficking links in Manipur and downward sale linkages in Nagaland and Assam.” It also informed that multiple cases of Ganja and Sunflower/ Shanflower (Heroin) trafficking are registered against him in Nagaland and other parts of country by different agencies.

Nagaland Police has said that several searches were conducted in various locations in Dimapur following the accused’s arrest and during these operations, incriminating materials such as documents, bank related papers, passbooks, multiple Sim cards (issued on fictitious names) and telephone devices (mobile handsets) have been seized.

Further, the Police have informed that as per its investigations, Bahar Uddin has procured and trafficked more than 800 soap cases of Narcotic drug Sunflower/shanflower (Heroin) from different suppliers operating from Manipur during the past 6 – 10 months. It further added that the accused was involved in Ganja business since 1995.

Based on further leads, more incisive action will follow in the coming days, Nagaland Police stated while also informing that detail investigation regarding the cases and his role in trafficking of narcotics in the old as well as current cases is being undertaken.

Meanwhile, the Police have appealed the public to share information on any traffickers. It also extended its appreciation to Angami Public Organization, Angami Youth Organization, DAYO, and other CSOs who have been actively assisting in the investigation whenever requested by deputing their representatives as witnesses, etc.

Nagaland Police has reminded that while possession and carrying of illicit drugs are offences, financing and coordinating trafficking activities or assistance in trafficking by hiding drugs or proceeds of drugs or providing shelter to criminals or allowing traffickers to transfer funds etc are offences too and requested the public to exercise caution.
