2023 has not begun well for bootleggers and drug peddlers in Nagaland. The state police have so far arrested over 40 persons in various districts as the Nagaland Police appears to have clearly intensified its war against liquor and narcotics in the state.
The police have, in the process, seized thousands of bottles and cans of liquor along with narcotics worth crores.
With the new Director General of Police (DGP) in office and the Assembly elections around the corner, the onslaught can be expected to further intensify.
Wokha
On Friday, Wokha PS personnel led by SDPO while conducting a routine inspection of shops, apprehended one person and seized a huge number of IMFL.
On Saturday, police informed that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Wokha Police, while conducting a special check at the foothills area under Bhandari PS, intercepted one Maestro scooty and arrested two peddlers named Luket Gurung and Papu Kakoti.
4,300 (2,632 grams approximately) capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were found concealed in seven black plastics bags.
Dimapur
On 10 January, Dimapur Police arrested one Vivekanand Singh in the Supermarket area of Dimapur and seized 96 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 192 cans of beer.
The following day, the police apprehended Kevinguzo with 62 bottles of assorted IMFL and Raja Boro with 83 bottles in their possessions.
On 12 January, Shadab Azeem was taken into custody at the Railway Station after being found with three soap cases of brown sugar(heroin) in his possession. Jung Bahadur Chetry was also arrested with psychotropic substances such as 420 capsules of SP, 280 tablets of Alprazolam and 50 tablets of Nitrazepam. The police also arrested one Vitoho Shohe on the same day.
Ali Achumi was arrested with 121 bottles of various IMFL and 10 cans of Kingfisher beer on 14 January.
On 16 January, Mosha Chang and Geten Sumi were arrested in separate events with 279 bottles of IMFL and 50 cans of beer, and 21,990 ML respectively.
On 18 January, East PS team along with 43 AR apprehended Roshan Kumar and Akhilesh Kumar at Supermarket area in a Maruti Van along with 2712 bottles of various IMFL and 240 cans of Kingfisher beer.
On the same day, a team with the CISF arrested one Mughavi Rochill and confiscated a Maruti with 108 bottles of MC liquor
Mokokchung
On 17 January, Mokokchung Police intercepted a truck and seized 50 cartons of imported cigarettes and 130 bags of poppy seeds worth Rs 2.29 crore.
Kiphire
Police arrested Zisela from Jail Ward and Tsalumla from Power Ward in Kiphire Town on 18 January with IMFL worth 2.2 lakh in their possessions.
Zunheboto
On 18 January, five persons were arrested by police in Zunheboto and 300 beer cans, 104 MC Rum (750 ML) bottles and 23 Whiskey (250 ML) bottles amounting to nearly 190 L of IMFL worth Rs 1.3 Lakhs.

Phek
One person was apprehended in Pfutsero on 19 January and 104 cans of beer and MC liquor were seized.
Peren
On 20 January, a joint team comprising of DEF Peren, Narcotic Personnel and CISF intercepted one Maruti Alto 800 at Teipuiki bridge, Peren and recovered 50 soap cases containing suspected Heroin.
Also on Friday, a team of Narcotics Branch, PHQ arrested five persons and recovered 1.14kg of suspected Heroin from a Mahindra Bolero in the same area.

Tuensang
The police, this week, conducted a raid at Longkhim and apprehended three persons and seized liquor worth over Rs 1,53,000.
Kohima
On 19 January, South PS personnel arrested one person and seized IMFL during a raid at Lerie colony.
Also on Thursday, the Khuzama inter State Check gate party intercepted two bolero vehicles and recovered 16 bags of Areca nuts weighing around 680kg.
