Nagaland Police notifies on motor vehicle offences and punishments

Kohima: Any Police Officer not below the rank of sub-inspector have authority to compound offences

Nagaland Police has informed that it will be carrying out “rigorous checks” on drivers and riders as part of its commitment to maintain law and order on the roads and therefore urged the public to be aware of responsibilities as road users. While warning that violators will be penalised as per the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) 1989 and Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019, Nagaland Police also highlighted some offences and its punishments –

Nagaland Police further added that as per sub-section (i) of section 200 of the MVA 1989 and as amended by the MV (A) Act 2019 read with Transport Department notification NO.TPT/MV/09/2019 dated Kohima the 12 November 2020 of the Government of Nagaland, any Police Officer not below the rank of sub-inspector have the authority to compound offences under the act and realise such amount either before or after institution of prosecution.
