Nagaland polls 2023: Y. Patton, Achumbemo Kikon and 5 others file nomination in Wokha district

Wokha: Prominent candidates including Deputy CM Y Patton, NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon, and philanthropist Dr. Roland Lotha filed their nominations among others from Wokha district on Monday.

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate from 37 Tyui AC, Yanthungo Patton filed his nomination at Wokha DC office on Monday.

Patton was accompanied by Nalin Kohli, National Secretary and Nagaland in charge; Dr. Thungchamo Ezung, Election Agent; Yankithung Yanthan, former MLA and opponent; Nzanbemo Jungi, Advocate; Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Renponthung Ezung, another BJP candidate from 38 Wokha AC.

Speaking to reporters after his nomination, Patton stated that he is confident to give a good fight to his opponents from various political parties.

Talking about the BJP-NDPP alliance, Kohli asserted that they are certain the people of Nagaland will bless them (BJP) with leaders like Patton and Reponthung Ezung and form a strong government.

Mentioning about giving the party ticket to new candidates while dropping some MLAs, Kohli responded that they have fielded 11 out of 12 sitting MLAs and ‘issued the tickets as a team’.

He further stated that the BJP-NDPP alliance is very strong and that they are looking forward to a positive result.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit

About the visit of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Shah to Nagaland, Kohli informed that they are not certain about the dates yet but assured that they will visit soon.

Kohli also shared about the expectation of seats out of 20, stating that it ‘depends on the vote of the people’ and hoped to get a good result.

The BJP party’s main focus will be on peace and development, he added.

Renponthung Ezung’s nomination for 38 Wokha A/C was also successfully initiated at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Achumbemo Kikon, Secretary General of Naga People’s Front also filed his nominations today in Bhandari. Kikon will be contesting against sitting BJP MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon from 40 Bhandari A/C.

This will be the fourth time Kikon is contesting. In the last 2018 election, Kikon lost by a very close margin to incumbent Mmhonlumo Kikon.

Yibemo Kithan, RJD party candidate for 37 Tyui A/C also filed his nomination today.

Meanwhile three candidates for 39 Sanis A/C also filed today. They were Mhathung Yanthan from NDPP, Dr. Roland Lotha from NPF and Sulanthung H Lotha from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
