The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) Home Department, on Thursday, urged the public to exercise caution in the coming days from 16 June to 24 June 2023 in view of the onset of monsoon in the state.
In a weather advisory, NSDMA stated that moderate to very heavy rainfall activity is expected in the state over the following week and that thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in certain pockets in the districts of Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng during this period.
Therefore, in order to avoid any eventualities, authority requested the public of Nagaland not to go out of the house during adverse weather especially for working in agriculture field, grazing cattle, fishing and plying boats or general travel. It further advised the public to take shelter homes, offices shopping centres, and hard-top vehicles with windows rolled up.

Avoid metal structures and constructions with metal sheeting, NSDMA cautioned. It also said that if one is caught outside with no safe shelter nearby, immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges, or peaks. Moreover, it advised public to keep monitoring local media for updates and warning instructions by various modes of communication.
