Nagaland State Election 2023: ‘Efforts being made to ensure smooth and fair elections’

Kohima: 27 Mokokchung Town AC with 8302 electors is the lowest, while 4 Ghaspani-I AC with 74,395 electors has the highest number of electors.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar on Friday stated that a lot of efforts are being made by the enforcement agencies – central as well as state – to ensure a smooth and fair conduct of the general elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023.

He was speaking during a press conference conducted by the office of the CEO, Nagaland related to election matters at Hotel De Oriental Grand in Kohima.

The CEO stated that the total nominated candidates stand at 225, out of which, 200 were found to be valid nominations, while 25 were rejected. 16 candidates withdrew their nominations on the last day of withdrawal on 10 February, a DIPR report stated.

The total number of contesting candidates stands at 184, while Kazheto Kinimi, BJP candidate from 31 Akuluto Assembly Constituency (AC), was elected unopposed as his lone opponent withdrew from the race on 10 February.

6 Tening AC, 39 Sanis AC, and 45 Tehok AC have the highest number of candidates among all the ACs with six each.

The CEO also stated that the number of political parties and candidates vying for the general elections in 2023 ARE BJP (20), CPI (1), INC (23), NCP (12), NPP (12), NDPP (40), NPF (22), RPP (1), JD (U) (7), LJP (Ram Vilas) (15), RPI (Athawale) (9), RJD (3), and independent (19).

13,17,632 total electors

The total number of electors stands at 13,17,632, out of which 6,61,489 are male electors, and 6,56,143 are female electors. The total number of polling stations is 2351, with Merapani polling station No. 71 under 40 Bhandari AC recording the lowest number of electors (37), and Usutomi polling station No. 12 under 32 Atoizu AC recording the highest number of electors at 1348.

The AC with the lowest number of electors is 27 Mokokchung Town AC with 8302 electors, and the highest number of electors is 4 Ghaspani-I AC with 74,395 electors.

The press conference was attended by a host of senior government officials, officials from IPR Department, and media personnel.
