Nagaland Super League set to launch its inaugural season

The Governing Body of Nagaland Super League chaired by Neibu Sekhose, President of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and Executive Member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), held a Governing Body meeting today to discuss the framework and launch of Nagaland Super League (NSL), informed a press release by the Nagaland Super League, Media Team.

This meeting follows the significant announcement made by the Chief Minister of Nagaland during the inauguration of 23rd Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Championships Trophy in Tuensang, to establish a professional football league in the state.

During the meeting, Sekhose extended the gratitude of the football and sports fraternity to the Chief Minister and the Government of Nagaland for their continued support in bringing this vision to life.

“We are committed to creating a platform that will elevate football in Nagaland and provide a stage for our local talent to shine on a national and international level,” said Sekhose.

Key Decisions from the Governing Body Meeting:

The league will officially be named the Nagaland Super League (NSL) and its inaugural season is set to start in 2024.

-The first edition of the NSL will feature 8 franchise teams, which will compete over the course of the season.

-The Governing Body will soon call for Letters of Interest and release advertisements inviting potential franchise owners to participate.

-The criteria for franchise ownership will be clearly outlined and will soon be released for public consumption.

-The Governing Body also formed several committees to oversee the smooth operation of the league, ensuring that all logistical, technical and promotional aspects are efficiently managed.

With nine members present at the general body meeting, it reaffirmed its dedication to promoting football excellence in the state. The Nagaland Super League aims to create a competitive platform for local footballers, fostering growth in the sport while also drawing attention to the rich football culture within the state.

The Nagaland Football Association has appealed to the sports lovers, football enthusiasts and capable patrons to explore possibilities of owning franchises. “It will not only be an opportunity to own sports brand but will become a journey where one can make contributions in the development of sports, growth of club culture, creation of opportunities for our youth to excel and make Nagaland shine at the National and International level,” stated the media team.
