The All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has resolved not to allow the election of Urban Local Body (ULB) in Mokokchung unless sections of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 were amended as demanded by the AWUMT, Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP) and Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federations'(DUCCF).

Pointing out that certain provisions of the Act infringed on the rights of Nagas enshrined under Article 371 A of the Constitution of India, the union demanded amendments to some sections of the Act during a meeting on 15 March attended by representatives of all the 18 wards.

AWUMT also stated that it would not allow any person within the 18 wards’ jurisdiction of Mokokchung town to file nominations.

This was among the two-point resolution adopted at the federal assembly of the Wards’ Union.
