Nagaland University celebrates 32nd Foundation Day

Nagaland University celebrated 32nd Foundation Day on September 6 at its Medziphema campus. The venue of the Foundation Day is rotated every year, so that each Campus gets the privilege of hosting the main program in its premises

The program began with the University flag hoisting by the chief guest, Prof  Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University and singing of Nagaland University Anthem led by EU, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus.

In his address, Prof Patnaik expressed happiness about the improvement in NIRF ranking of Nagaland University and also stated that his predecessors had done commendable jobs in binging Nagaland University to this stage.

He emphasized that Nagaland University is at its peak on this 32nd foundation day and encouraged the gathering that through excellence, hard work, dedication and thinking out of the box Nagaland University will gain even greater heights.

As per the tradition started by Prof Patnaik, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award 2025 was presented to the deserving Awardees.

Winners for Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Best Teacher campus-wise were: Dr G Bupesh, Assistant Professor, Depatment of Forestry (Headquarters Lumami), Dr Seema Rani Thappa, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education (Kohima campus), and Dr Deepa Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Department of Rural Development and Planning (Medziphema Campus).

Winners for Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Non-Teaching Staff campus-wise were: Milto Swu, Section Officer, Finance (Kohima campus), and Yangpothung Lotha, Transport Section (Medziphema Campus).

Winners for Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Research Scholar campus-wise were: Shisak Sharma, Department of Chemistry (Headquarters Lumami), Lochumi Kikon, Department of Agril. Engineering & Technology (Kohima Campus), and Rajan Singh, Department of Livestock Production & Management (Medziphema Campus).

Winners for Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best student campus-wise were: Alva Biginde M Sangma, Department of Chemistry (Headquarters Lumami), Kezevinuo and Thejainuo Thevo both from Department of Linguistics (Kohima Campus), and Karri Anusha, Department of Plant Pathology (Medziphema Campus). A special award was also presented to Dr Biplab Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.

Prof Dipak Sinha, PVC, NU, Medziphema Campus and Prof N Venuh PVC, NU, Kohima Campus also spoke on the occasion.

Dr. Abemo, Registrar, Nagaland University, in his speech said that the Foundation Day was a day of thanksgiving and also remembrance of the pioneers and he requested all to hold a minute of silence as a tribute to former employees of NU who had passed away.

In his speech, he applauded the teaching, non-teaching, scholars and students of Nagaland University and urged all to work hard and make the University reach its best and fulfill the potentials in a befitting manner.

The program was chaired by Prof Malini Barthakur Sharma, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding. Invocation prayer was said by Dr Sentimenla Jamir, Department of Soil Science while the welcome address was pronounced by Prof L Daiho, Dean, School of Agriculture Sciences.

Special numbers were presented by EU Choir and SAS family choir led by Dr Moakala Changkiri and Dr Chubatemsu Ozukum.

The programme ended with the vote of thanks pronounced by Dr Anthony V Richa, Deputy Registrar, NU, Medziphema Campus.

At Headquarters Lumami, the foundation address was delivered by Prof Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, Sr. Professor, Department of Economics and at Kohima Campus, the foundation address was delivered by Prof. Buno Liegise, Department of Education.
