Nagaland University excels at All India Inter University Pencak Silat Championship 2024-25

The Nagaland University (NU) students excelled in the recent All India Inter University Pencak Silat Championship 2024-25 held at Bengaluru, informed a press release by PRO, NU.

Organised jointly by Bengaluru North University and Kristu Jayanti College (KJC), an autonomous institution, the competition was held during April 14-16, 2025 wherein athletes from Nagaland University bagged five medals overall, with two gold medals and three bronze medals. Of this, one gold medal and one bronze medal came from female athletes.

The competition hosted by Kristu Jayanti College saw participation from 68 universities (men and women) with over 750 athletes competing. The team from Nagaland University was led by Mesanguto Meru, Assistant Director of Sports as the team manager.

Prior to the competition, the University’s sports section headed by Deputy Director of Sports Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari had identified the best players from the University as well as from the affiliated colleges through open trials. Both Kevin and Liike Kibami secured Gold medals in Tanding (Sparring), while Akhumse A. Sangtam, Puloka K. Achumi and  Niepuleno Suokhrie won Bronze medals also in Tanding (Sparring).

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik has extended congratulations to the winning athletes while also appreciating the efforts put in by the DDS and the Team Manager towards the remarkable achievement.
