The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, hosted the Japan Job Fair on 26th August 2024, at the Multi-Purpose Hall. Organized by the Embassy of Japan in India, New Delhi, and supported by the Japan Agricultural Corporations Association (JACA), the National Chamber of Agriculture, and the Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia, the fair was facilitated by ARMs Incorporation (Nagaland unit) and IDAN, Government of Nagaland.
The PRO, NU informed that the Job Fair featured eight companies from Japan: Agricultural Cooperative Corporation MIZUDORI, AZU Ltd, Otsukaen Ltd, Kato Enoki Co., Saikoue Co., Ranmeisha Ltd., Act Farm Ltd., and Top River Ltd. Many company owners attended personally to recruit students, while others sent representatives to present their organizations and invite students to participate in “Technical Intern Training” and “Specified Skilled Workers (i)/(ii)” programs in agriculture and livestock.
Prof. Akali Sema, Pro Vice Chancellor of SAS, NU, Medziphema Campus, delivered a welcome note and introduced Nagaland University. Masami Ota, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in India, emphasized the job fair’s importance and significance for both nations.
A video on Japanese agriculture was shown, followed by a detailed explanation of the “Technical Intern Training” and “Specified Skilled Workers (i)/(ii)” programs by Kohei Aoki from the National Chamber of Agriculture. Aoki outlined the expectations for students, the benefits offered by the companies, and stressed the importance of learning Japanese for successful placement.
Company representatives then discussed their operations and presented videos about their activities. Students engaged in one-on-one consultations with company representatives through interpreters.
The event catered to 159 students, including those pursuing B.Sc. (Hons) Ag, M.Sc. (Ag), and PhD (Ag) degrees. Among the attendees was an agricultural science graduate from Uttar Pradesh, whose first visit to Nagaland was made to fulfill his dream of working in Japan. The direct interactions at the fair at Nagaland University allowed students to gain valuable insights into company cultures and work environments, leaving a positive impact. Many students expressed a strong interest in learning Japanese to pursue careers or gain practical experience through internships in Japan.
