Nagaland University Kohima campus, Meriema protests against harrassment of Pro-Vice Chancellor

The students of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus Meriema along with its teaching, non-teaching and research scholars of the University protested at the campus on October 18, against the recent harassment of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Glenn T. Thong, Kohima campus. Thong is reported to have been harassed by a group of people from Meriema Village on October 16 when he was on his way to attend office

The Nagaland University Student’s Union (NUSU), Kohima Campus vehemently condemned and expressed its utmost dismay on the incident that transpired on October 16 where the Pro Vice Chancellor was impeded from passing through their land and was threatened with dire consequences if he did not pay heed to their warning by a group of contractors while he was on his official duty

Condemning the cowardly act, NUSU stated the act eroded the principles of professionalism and respect. It appealed the law enforcing agencies to thoroughly investigate the case and serve the befitting punishment to the culprits at the earliest as per the law of the land and added, “This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated, no way, no how”

Furthermore, the Union called upon those individuals involved to reflect on their action which had adversely disrupted and hindered the peaceful environment of the university and demanded unequivocal apology to be published in the local dailies for their egregious behaviour demonstrating genuine remorse.

In a letter to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chiephobozou, the Meriema Village Council stated that it did not encourage any citizen or group to hamper any development activities or road blockage at the NU Campus, Meriema.

The council also requested the aggrieved contractors not to hamper the activities of the Campus and resolve the issue within a week’s time, which the Council stated that ‘the aggrieved party had accepted’.
