Nagaland University observes World Mental Health Day

The department of Psychology, Nagaland University commemorated “World Mental Health Day” by organizing a fest named PSYCHSPARK that included activities such as reels and poster competitions and the making of a film.

A press release from the university stated that a special programme was held on October 10 on the theme “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”, graced by Prof. N. Venuh, Pro Vice-Chancellor Kohima Campus as the special guest.

Venuh encouraged the congregation to find peace in sharing and releasing their problems through various healthy exercises that one could adopt.

Dr. Hovisuto Khieya, JRF under a DRDO project of the department spoke on the theme and discussed the issues that greatly concern the mental health of today’s society. He also emphasized the need for mental health services, particularly during conflicts and emergencies.

A special feature of the programme was the screening of the original short film- Eunoia, which was developed by the department to create awareness amongst the student community about the importance of mental health care. The film encouraged the gathering to speak out about one’s problems and carried the message that every mind matters and every act of kindness counts.

Kezhasenuo Kesiezie, a guest faculty in the department, chaired the programme and. Dr. Imlisongla Longkumer, head of the department delivered the vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by faculty, scholars and students from different departments over the campus.
