The Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) convened its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) today under the aegis of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) at the NOA office in Kohima.

In his address, NWA General Secretary, Akhozo underscored the pivotal role of the affiliated district associations, calling them the “backbone and foundation” of the sport in the state. He urged the districts to work collectively in identifying and nurturing young talents, stressing that grassroots development is essential for producing professional athletes.

Highlighting the recognition of Wushu by both the Indian Olympic Association and the Government of Nagaland, Akhozo reminded members that the state government has been extensively extending support to promote sports and games in the state.

He encouraged members to actively contribute towards the growth of the discipline, ensuring Nagaland secures recognition through consistent medal-winning performances at the national level.

Looking ahead, he urged the association to think beyond routine activities and to strategically prioritize disciplines with strong medal prospects. He further challenged the body to set long-term targets, including preparing athletes for the 2036 Olympic Games, where India is expected to bid for hosting rights.

During the meeting, the house resolved to organize the Nagaland Wushu Championship (Sanda event) from October 21 to 23, featuring senior, junior, and sub-junior categories.

Meanwhile, a judges’ seminar and technical training programme, conducted by NIS-certified coach Gabriel Khamo, is currently underway to strengthen officiating standards and enhance technical expertise in the state.

The AGM was well attended by representatives from various affiliated district associations, with commitments to elevating Wushu in Nagaland to greater heights.
