In the heart of Nagaland, a determined and talented footballer is breaking barriers and reaching new heights. Nyitsarho Nyusou, hailing from the Pochury tribe in Meluri Village in Meluri sub-division under Phek district, has embarked on an extraordinary journey that has taken her from the local fields of her state to signing a professional contract with KEMP FC Bangalore for the upcoming Karnataka state Women’s Super Division League.
Nyitsarho’s passion for football was evident from an early age. Standing at a height of 5 feet 7 inches, she embraced the role of a goalkeeper, a position that requires exceptional reflexes, composure, and quick decision-making. Her journey started when she joined and went to play for Samuel Football Academy in the Mumbai Elite League in 2019, and she continued to make waves through Dreams Team in the Delhi League in 2021 and Royal Rangers in the Delhi Premier League in 2022.
But it was not just about club matches for Nyitsarho; she shone brightly on the national stage too. Her participation in the Subroto Under-17 tournament in 2016 earned her the title of runners-up, and she repeated this achievement in the National School Games in 2012 and the School Game National in 2011. The North East Games in 2013 saw her emerge as a champion, and her journey continued with strong performances in the North East Games in 2016 and 2018.
Representing her state, Nagaland, was a proud achievement for Nyitsarho. She donned the state’s colours 13 times, showcasing her dedication and talent on numerous occasions. Her journey was far from smooth; she encountered challenges that tested her spirit and resilience. Overcoming societal attitudes and limited resources for women’s football in the region, Nyitsarho pressed on with unwavering determination.

In an exclusive interview with Nagaland Tribune, Nyitsarho recounted her journey with humility and gratitude. She credited her success to divine blessings and the opportunity she received. Starting with her days at the IG Girls Football academy at I.G Stadium, Kohima, in 2010, she honed her goalkeeping skills and earned accolades for her performance. Despite the challenges, Nyitsarho’s family and mentors viz Coach Ruopfü Meyase and Kevilebei Zashumo played pivotal roles in shaping her career.
Transitioning from representing her state to joining KEMP FC Bangalore brought a new dimension to Nyitsarho’s career. The move was driven by her ambition to continue playing football professionally, a dream that was constrained by limited resources and opportunities for female players in Nagaland.
Nyitsarho’s decision in joining KEMP FC Bangalore was also influenced by her belief in Coach Lavoriyi Theluo’s guidance who now coaches at Minerva Academy, Punjab.
As Nyitsarho steps onto the club stage, she recognizes the significance of her journey. She sees the privilege of representing her state as a platform to elevate her profession. With the grace of her skills, the hard work she’s put in, and the encouragement of her coaches and senior players, Nyitsarho envisions contributing to her new club’s success.
The challenges she faced along the way have forged her character. Despite negative attitudes and lack of support, Nyitsarho’s tenacity led her to overcome obstacles.
