The National Cancer Survivor Day event was commemorated today at Putuonuo Hospital in Kohima.
Khrienuo Rio Moa, Founder of RML Cancer Foundation, shared her caregiving journey for her husband who battled cancer. She said the initial shock of the diagnosis brought devastation and challenges, despite both being mission workers. Over nine months, the family faced struggles but also gained valuable experiences. As a caregiver, Moa shared she had to maintain her outer strength while dealing with internal turmoil and staying strong for her husband.
After exhausting every treatment option and receiving a discouraging prognosis from the doctor, Khrienuo found solace in the belief that we are all cherished by God. Surrendering to His will, she entrusted everything to Him. Emphasizing that all experiences are for God’s Glory, she considered caring for her husband a privilege despite the immense difficulty. The establishment of the Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation in 2019 was her husband’s vision. Khrienuo urged caregivers to stay positive, trust in God, and maintain hope. She stressed the divine purpose behind our existence and the importance of fulfilling His will. Encouraging words and support should be extended to patients and their caregivers alike.
Khrienuo urged cancer survivors to appreciate the gift of life by being a blessing to others. She emphasized the importance of gratitude and spreading positivity to those around us.
In the discussion on “Sickness and Healing – The Vexing Nature,” Colon cancer survivor Kekhrieletso Kelio shared his perspective. He acknowledged that many wonder why they endure certain illnesses, admitting to questioning God himself. Through his journey, he realized that his sickness allowed him to empathize with the suffering of others. Kelio expressed his gratitude to God for his recovery and recognized the medical team, especially Dr. Keduovinuo Keditsu, for their exceptional care and support during his healing process.
Under the theme “Why Me, Lord,” Samuel Venuh, a cancer survivor, shared his poignant journey. Wrestling with the question of suffering, he found solace in realizing God’s greater suffering on the Calvary cross. Through the tough times, he emphasized the importance of praying for God’s will. Despite moments of despair and surrender, he experienced God’s healing, acknowledging that everything unfolds according to His divine plan.
Venuh praised Putuonuo Hospital as a mission field where he received physical, emotional, and spiritual support along with renewed hope. Encouraging trust in the Lord, he highlighted the uplifting power of faith.
