National Javelin Day 2024: Mokokchung aims to cultivate future champions

Mokokchung Athletics, in collaboration with Nagaland Athletics Association, successfully organized National Javelin Day 2024 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on August 7. The event saw around 100 enthusiastic participants from various schools within Mokokchung town, all competing under the objective “To produce future Neeraj Chopras.”

The competition featured three categories for both boys and girls: Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16. The event marked a significant milestone for the Mokokchung Athletic Association, formed in 2021 but previously hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this event, they aim to focus on “grassroots hunting” to potentially see future representation at national and international levels.

Third Place: Arendi Longchar, Performance: 27.3 meters

All winners were awarded certificates, medals, and gifts. Rongsentoshi, President of Mokokchung Athletics, told Nagaland Tribune, that the event was organized to commemorate Neeraj Chopra’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics. The collaboration with the Nagaland Athletics Association received a positive response from both parents and participants, encouraging the association to plan more such events in the future.

Talimoa Jamir, a senior volleyball player, graced the event, adding to the excitement. Rongsentoshi highlighted that despite being organized for the first time, National Javelin Day is set to become an annual event, fostering young talent and inspiring future champions.
