National Space Day celebrated in Kohima

The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) in collaboration with Nagaland Geographic Information System & Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) organized the National Space Day celebrations on July 16, informed a DIPR  report.

The event was held at SIRD Auditorium, Kohima, Nagaland with Principal Secretary & Development Commissioner  R. Ramakrishnan, IAS as the Chief Guest.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Principal Secretary & Development Commissioner, R. Ramakrishnan, IAS highlighted the importance of celebrating the National Space Day and also acknowledged the country’s greatest achievement in space technology, the successful landing of its Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander on the lunar south polar region on August 23, 2023 which had placed India in the elite group of space exploring nations of the world. He urged all to appreciate and keep pace with technological and scientific advancements taking place around us every day.

He further encouraged the students present to drive towards progress and development in the field of science and technology and to dream big as now is the right time and age for them to learn. In conclusion, he thanked NESAC and NGISRSC for organizing the event and wished them all the best in all their endeavours.

Dr. D. Chutia, Head GID, NESAC, Department of Science, Umiam Meghalaya gave a brief overview of the programme and highlighted the importance of celebrating the National Space Day.

The inaugural Programme was followed by a Technical Session where P. S. Singh, Scientist-SF, GID, NESAC and Ritu Anilkumar, Scientist-SF, GID, NESAC spoke on the topics ‘Space Applications for societal benefit’ and ‘Indian Programmes with special emphasis on Moon Missions’ respectively. Altogether more than 150 students from various schools in Kohima participated in the event. A quiz Competition among the students was also held as part of the celebrations.

Earlier, Project Director, NGISRSC Planning and Transformation Department Er. M Kithan, gave the welcome address while Senior analyst, NGISRSC Dr. C. Furkumzuk pronounced the vote of thanks.
