National Voluntary Blood Donation Day observed at Kohima College

Kohima: Consistent blood donors felicitated during event to honour and recognize their commendable efforts

The Voluntary Blood Donors Association, Kohima (VBDAK), in collaboration with Kohima College, Kohima; Blood Centre, NHAK; Indian Red Cross Society; Nagaland Branch NSBTC; and the Government of Nagaland, came together to celebrate National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. The event, held at Kohima College, Kohima, saw a vibrant gathering of individuals eager to contribute to the noble cause of saving lives through blood donation, DIPR stated.

Dr. Tseihoutuo Rhutso, MLA of Kohima, 9th AC, highlighting the vital role of blood in saving lives, both medically and spiritually. He elaborated on the functions and types of blood, encouraging the students to enhance their knowledge in this area.

Meghraj Lama, General Secretary of VBDAK, spoke on the significance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. He highlighted on the history of the special day and elaborated on the criteria and need for blood donation in the state. Lama also shared the challenges faced due to the scarcity of blood supply and urged the students present to step forward and donate blood generously.

The program was chaired by Sentisangla, Assistant Professor at Kohima College and Keneilesa Neikha, Vice Principal of Kohima College gave the welcome address. In his speech, Neikha emphasized the importance of raising awareness about blood donation among young people. He referred to the day as a moment of realization, a call to action to awaken the cause of donating blood to save others’ lives.

The event continued with a felicitation ceremony, where individuals and organizations who have been consistent blood donors and have made a significant impact in the field of voluntary blood donation were honored and recognized for their commendable efforts.

Burakum Ao, Executive Member of VBDAK, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks. He thanked all the participants, volunteers, and organizers for making the event a resounding success.

Following the speeches and cultural performances, the program culminated with a session of voluntary blood donation. Volunteers lined up enthusiastically, ready to contribute to this noble cause and help meet the ever-present demand for blood in the state.
