Under the aegis of TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission organized a launching program and distributed tools and machinery to the New Showuba Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) on May 31, 2024, at New Showuba village.
The event was graced by special guest, Obed Quinker,Chairman of Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission. Mhathung T Tsopoe, Project Coordinator and Team Member of NBHM who chaired the programme, provided a brief introduction of the PMJVM scheme and outlined its objectives and guidelines to the VanDhan members. Subsequently, Khumkiula, Village Facilitator, highlighted the activities of existing Self Help groups in the clusters, followed by brief speeches from Village Council Secretary, Ananchuba, and Chairman of Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission, Obed Quinker.
In his remarks, Quinker highlighted the significant opportunities presented by the PMJVM Scheme for Self Help groups to enhance their income. He emphasized that this scheme offers a chance to leverage the abundant local resources in the State, ultimately benefiting the community’s livelihoods. Quinker stressed the importance of recognizing the marketing potential of various Minor Forest Products like Hill broom and bamboo broom, noting their high demand in other parts of the country.

He urged Self Help groups to efficiently utilize these resources and strive for greater success. Additionally, Quinker appealed to VanDhan members to work together cohesively and make effective use of the provided tools and machinery.
He underscored the importance of forming VanDhan clusters in villages as a means to generate income and foster self-sustainability among tribal communities in the State.
The event concluded with the dedication of machineries, by a word of prayer from Kiujimkhiung, Pastor of Loyir Baptist Church.
