The Nagaland Community Conserved Area Forum (NCCAF) along with Mt. Pauna Biodiversity Conservation Forum organised a tree plantation at Benreu Village, Peren District on Wednesday in celebration of World Environment Day 2024.
The plantation was preceded by a brief formal programme held at the Council Hall where Heirang Lungalang, Chairman, NCCAF thanked all the participants for their presence and encouraged everyone to take forward the spirit of conservation in their respective areas.
Tokugha Sumi, Vice Chairman, NCCAF, gave a briefing outline of the workings and functions of NCCAF and also a brief significance of World Environment Day. He spoke about the sustainable lifestyle of the forefathers who lived in harmony with nature but lamented that the present generations have ruined the environment. Sumi stressed the need for everybody to understand the concept of conservation and spread its awareness.
After the programme, NCCAF office bearers and members of the Mt. Pauna Biodiversity Conservation Forum took part in plantation of Rhododendron saplings in and around Benreu Village.
11 villages from the forum attended the celebration along with Benreu Village Council members and NCCAF office bearers.
