Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said he was confident that the NDPP-BJP alliance will continue to rule the state, calling the alliance ‘regional in character and national in outlook’.

Rio was speaking at the Local Ground, Thonoknyu Town in Noklak district at a Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party campaign rally at 57th Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency in support of his party’s candidate S. Heno Khiamniungan.

He stated that in the seat sharing formula between the two parties, NDPP gets majority seats because Bharatiya Janata Party respects and protects the rights and identity of the Naga people.

The CM also said that the Naga political issue is recognised as a unique political issue.

Further, he maintained that in the oppositionless government, all the 60 members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly had pushed forward for peace and development together.

With regard to Eastern Nagaland, Rio said that extra economic package was given for development to the area, however it was rejected without giving much proper study. Rio also said that the Centre’s concern for Eastern Nagas is genuine.

S.Heno Khiamniungan, the intending candidate for NDPP 57th A/C Thonoknyu, pronounced his slogan for the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly election as ‘Peace for Development and Development for Peace.”

Khiamniungan lauded CM Rio for declaring Noklak and Shamator as districts and for recognising the Tikhir tribe.

Tokheto Yepthomi, Lok Sabha MP, and Y.P Chillio, State Executive Member (SEM), BJP, in their short speeches, too echoed that the NDPP-BJP will be back in power with absolute majority under the leadership of Rio.
