The National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today clarified that no final decision has been taken regarding the proposed merger of the NDPP and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) under the ‘Cock’ symbol. The party stated that while the proposal was formally placed before the NDPP President and the party on September 2 last, the party is yet to meet and discuss this, and therefore, the NDPP till date has under no equivocal terms “cleared the decks to effect the merger”.

The clarification came in response to a report in a local daily claiming that the NDPP had already cleared the way for a merger with the NPF.

In a statement issued by its media and communication committee, the party said the NDPP, being a political party, registered and recognized by the Election Commission of India (ECI) is governed by the Party Constitution and the process of democracy.

“Therefore, since the proposal was made only recently, a meeting of the Central Executive Board (CEB) of the NDPP will be convened soon, where the matter will be discussed and taken forward democratically as mandated under the NDPP Constitution,” it stated.

The party further appealed to the public and the media not to indulge in speculation until an official decision is taken. “Till such time an official decision of the NDPP is issued, all speculations and doubts be kindly laid to rest,” it added.
