NDPP retains 43 Tapi as Wangpang Konyak wins bye election by 5333 votes

Mon: Congress’ Wanglem Konyak loses two elections in 2023

Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has retained 43 Tapi seat in Mon district on Sunday as its candidate Wangpang Konyak won the bye election by 5333 votes, securing 67.84 percent of the total votes.

The by poll for 43 Tapi Assembly Constituency was conducted on 7th November after the seat fell vacant following the demise of NDPP’s Member of Legislative Assembly late Noke Wangnao on 28th August 2023.

10053 electorates had voted for Wangpang Konyak while 4720 voted for his only opponent Wanglem Konyak, the Congress candidate. 45 voters chose ‘NOTA’ (None of the Above).

This was the second election in 2023 for Congress’ Wanglem Konyak and the second he has lost. He had contested against late Noke Wangnao in the February election for the same 43 Tapi AC which he lost by a mere 82 votes.

Wangpang Konyak was unanimously chosen as the candidate by NDPP and was endorsed by alliance partner BJP.
