As part of the governance and capacity building component of the Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR) project, the Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) comprising government school teachers across Nagaland are being trained for capacity building.

According to a press release issued by NECTAR project, the trainings are aimed to transform teaching and learning practices, foster collaboration among educators, create a culture of continuous learning and professional development among them, and enhance their digital literacy. Aligned with this initiative, the fifth round of in-person training for subject-based PLCs which commenced on 22 April, concluded on June 13 across four training stations in Mokokchung, Tuensang, Dimapur and Kohima for ten subjects – English, Science/Biology, Hindi, Mathematics, Accountancy, EVS/Social Science/History, Economics, Chemistry, Physics and Sociology. Subject Matter Experts (SME), subject presidents and mentors participated in the training, the release said.

PLCs consists of subject presidents from secondary stage, and a mentor each from the foundational, preparatory and middle stage. These four core PLC members are trained to become mentors for fellow teachers of their subjects in the district.

The subject-based PLCs are communities of teachers who come together to share best practices and innovative teaching strategies, discuss pedagogical approaches and engage in professional development activities tailored to their respective disciplines.

After their training, the participating teachers actively teach their lessons with improved practices in the form of student-centred and activity-based pedagogy in classrooms.
