New Jalukie daily market inaugurated

Jalukie: Market was earlier known as weekly market or Thursday market

ADC Jalukie, TL Kiusumong Tikhir, NCS inaugurated the New Jalukie daily market in the presence of New Jalukie village council and its neighbouring village council members on 20 June 2023.

Speaking at the programme, ADC Jalukie, TL Kiusumong Tikhir said it was a red-letter day for the community as there is a good scope by opening daily market for the whole of Jalukie valley. With the new daily market, he hoped that the economic status of the villagers will be uplifted.

Tikhir called upon the village councils to maintain the daily market so that it would serve as a source of income not just for the villagers, but others as well. Further, he lauded the efforts of the village councils for making this up gradation possible and wished them a bright future.

Chairperson of the programme, Tingsangai John Panmei while giving a brief history of the existence of the market said, New Jalukie Village, established in the year 1967, is the second largest village and commercial hub in the district consisting of 1,000 household with a populace density of 6,000.

Sensing the need of the people, the past leaders with their far-sighted envisioned to establish a weekly market in April 1996 with an acquisition of land for a market complex during the regime of Lt. Lumthai’s chairmanship and its permit obtained during the erstwhile chairmanship of SP Dinsalak, and was upgraded after a gap of 27 years, under the initiative of the present Council Chairman, Liangkebo Pamei, Chairman BDB, Ginbonlung, VCMs and GBs of New Jalukie Village.

The dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Pastor LBP, Kendinbo.
