The newly constructed Office Building of the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO), Peren was inaugurated on February 24 by the Commissioner & Secretary, Information & Public Relations and Co-operation, Orenthung IAS as the Special Guest.

In his inaugural address, Lotha said, the newly established district headquarter at Peren faces unique challenges as it is located in a remote area with limited facilities. However, he expressed optimism that with collective effort and proper planning, the headquarters can be developed into a vibrant township in the near future.

He mentioned that while the Government is planning the development of Nagaki City in the near future, Peren remains the only district headquarters in the State that has been shifted to a new location. He further lauded Peren District’s vision to become the greenest district in Nagaland, stating that the goal is achievable and aligns with sustainable development objectives.

Highlighting the economic scenario of the State, he observed that Nagaland has limited industrial presence and a small economy. In this regard, he informed that the Government is exploring avenues to market surplus carbon credits to industrialized States. He added that a survey of available biomass would soon be conducted, noting that Nagaland has one of the highest forest covers in the country.

He appealed to all departments stationed at the district headquarters to extend full support to the Deputy Commissioner, Peren, stating that functioning in a remote area with limited infrastructure is challenging but can be transformed into an opportunity with coordinated efforts.

Speaking on employment, he said that unemployment among educated youth remains a pressing concern in the State. He stressed the need to equip young people with market-driven skills and emphasized that the Department of Information and Public Relations has an important role in disseminating information on government policies, programmes, and emerging job opportunities. He urged educated youth to broaden their outlook and not rely solely on government employment, underscoring the importance of dignity of labour.

The Commissioner also raised concern over deforestation and wildlife depletion. He urged the public to practice sustainable harvesting, consume forest produce responsibly, and protect biodiversity to maintain ecological balance. He further emphasized the importance of tree plantation, especially around river sources, to ensure water retention.
