New traffic regulations from 15 Jan to reduce risks to school children due to heavy traffic

Wokha: Complete ban on movement of Heavy Commercial vehicles between 7 am to 9 am in Wokha Town

To reduce the risks to safety of school going children due to congested roads and heavy traffic, and to improve the traffic flow within Wokha Town, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Vineet Kumar, IAS has introduced new traffic rules after holding a consultative meeting with stakeholders in November 2024.

In the Order issued on 21 December 2024, the DC notified that the new regulations would come into effect from 15 January 2025 and urged all citizens and civil society organizations are requested to give cooperation for successful enforcement of the order.

The new rules include:

  1. Complete ban on movement of Heavy Commercial vehicles (7 tones and above) including interdistrict and interstate vehicles between 7 am to 9 am in Wokha Town from Monday to Saturday.
  2. Heavy Commercial vehicles (7 tones and above) will be allowed to ply in Wokha Town along the NH2 only (and no other roads) thereafter between 9 am to 3 pm. The restriction on movement will get over after 3 pm.
  3. Ban on loading and unloading of goods at shops and godowns within Wokha Town between 7 am to 3 pm.
  4. All passenger vehicles like NST buses, School buses and private passenger vehicles and Town Council garbage collection vehicles power department vehicles, fire tenders, police vehicles will be exempted from this ban on movement.
