The Nagaland Football Association (NFA) under the umbrella of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) joined the rest of Asia and other countries under the Asian Football Federation (AFC) in celebrating the AFC’s Grassroots Football Day 2025 under the theme “Football for the goals” in an event held at IG Stadium Kohima on May 23. The NFA was joined by officials of the Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) in the celebration, informed a press release.
In celebrating the event and taking into cognizance the AIFF’s focus on the role of football in climate change and sustainable development, the NFA undertook the initiatives of “Say NO to Single-use plastic” & “Our football ground, our responsibility” pledged by all participating members and to be taken forward by its member District FAs and the football community of Nagaland towards inculcating a purpose driven approach in football.
The event witnessed the participation of over 60 children in the event which was chaired by the NFA Joint Secretary, Chenonlo Woch who educated the children on the purpose and theme of the celebration which focused on sustainable development and role of footballers and football lovers to further it. He also spoke on child safeguarding and safety of children in football which was another focus area of this year’s event as well. Woch encouraged them to be champions and ambassadors of the two pledges initiated by the Association.

The President NFA, Neibou Sekhose and Vice-President KDFA, Neidilhoutuo Sechü led the children in the pledge-taking. NFA Treasurer and AFC B Licence Coach, Roko Angami led the young footballers in two special training sessions to mark the grassroots day celebration at IG Stadium.
The NFA also extended appreciation to four of its participating Member DFAs namely Zunheboto DFA, Peren DFA, Mokokchung DFA, Wokha DFA; and the Morning Football League under Morning Football Association Kohima for their support and active participation in organizing the event in their respective districts and taking forward the initiative and responsibility towards promoting grassroots football with a purpose.
