NFDB’s conducts 3-days skill development training on ‘Fish Preservation & Value Addition’

Wokha: Trainees visited “Fish Processing Unit” at Sanis for demonstrations and hands-on training in preparing fish products

The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Government of India, in collaboration with Shishoi Oshim-ETF Cell Wokha, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Wokha, and the Department of Fisheries & AR, Wokha, organised a comprehensive three days skill development training program on “Fish Preservation & Value Addition” from 2-4 July 2024.

Expert resource persons were invited from ICAR-RC for NEH Umiam, NFDB-NERC, and officers from the Wokha District Fisheries Office to share their knowledge and expertise.

The training emphasised the importance of hygienic handling of fish and covered various preservation methods including icing, freezing, drying, smoking, fermenting, and canning.

Additionally, participants learned to prepare value-added fish products such as pickles, cutlets, sausages, pakoras, fish fingers, and fish balls, which present lucrative revenue opportunities for unemployed youth with minimal investment.

As part of the program, trainees visited the “Fish Processing Unit” at Sanis for demonstrations and hands-on training in preparing fish products. The program also included awareness sessions on various governmental schemes and subsidies available to support these entrepreneurial initiatives.

This training program equipped participants with essential skills fostering sustainable livelihood opportunities within the community.

The event took place in District Fishery Office, Wokha with participation from 25 enthusiastic young entrepreneurs.
