NHIDCL begins repair work on NH-2 stretch after Khuzama students’ ultimatum

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has initiated repair works on the National Highway-2 stretch in Khuzama under Kohima district on 17 March 2025. This development is in response to the two-day ultimatum served by the Khuzama Students Care Union to the NHIDCL

Earlier on 11 March 2025, the union held a peaceful protest to highlight the inconveniences being borne by students and villagers due to the poor condition of the road. The ultimatum was issued on the same day.

Devanand Kumar, Residents Authority Engineer, said that the work is going on smoothly. He highlighted that DBM laying is on process and its thickness is 90mm. The engineer stated that the work is expected to be completed within three months and emphasized that along with the machineries, 15 labourers are at work while three engineers are at site. As of 19 March, approximately 320 meters of the road is said to have been repaired.

Nunuse Sale, former speaker, Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU), thanked the concerned authorities, NHIDCL for taking quick action and taking heed of the two days ultimatum served. Sale informed that the NHIDCL has assured to collaborate with students unions and youth organizations of Khuzama in monitoring the work. Sale also thanked the residents engineer Devanand Kumar for his presence in overlooking the work. Further, on behalf of the youth organization and village of Khuzama, Sale extended gratitude towards all the people who came together to support the movement.
