Against the backdrop of the shocking and brutal incident of rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata recently, the Nagaland In Service Doctor’s Association (NIDA) will be wearing black badges/bands today, August 16, to express solidarity to the victim’s family and the All India Federation of Government Doctor’s Association (AIFGDA).
In a circular issued yesterday, the NIDA directed all its district units to don on black badges in support of the All India Federation of Government Doctor’s Association (AIFGD) and to show its solidarity to the bereaved family. “As this notice has been circulated at the eleventh hour, the District NIDA Units are also requested to voluntarily arrange the BLACK BANDS/BADGES with the initiative of district unit representatives,” stated the circular.
In order to document the involvement, the circular also requested the units to send pictures/photos to the NIDA Whatsapp Group so that it can be forwarded to the Central Executive Council of AIGFDA.

On August 13, the AIGFDA held a meeting regarding the brutal incident of rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. The meetings decided that:
1. AIFGDA will represent union health and home minister for swift probe into the matter and punish all the people guilty in this heinous crime, with highest punishment.
2. It was decided that a representation will be given to central government to make stringent law for violence against doctors and hospital staff at the earliest.
3. Adequate security and safe working environment must be provided to doctors at work place to avoid such incidents.
It was unanimously decided that government doctors throughout the country will wear black badges on August 16 as a mark of protest against such brutal and heinous crime and to show solidarity with the family of the victim, informed a notice issued by the AIGFDA on August 14.
