NIMSR receives official Letter of Permission from MARB approving 100 MBBS seats for 2023-24

The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), Phirebagie, Kohima on Monday, received the official Letter of Permission from the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), National Medical Commission (NMC) for the establishment of the institute, the first in the state.

The Letter also officially approves NIMSR to take in 100 students for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) for the academic year 2023-2024.

It is mentioned that the proposal has been approved in view of the undertaking given by the Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare Department, that all the deficiencies as pointed out by the MARB will be rectified by 31 May 2023.

The Board further warned that NMC is entitled to take measures, including revoking the Letter of Permission, in an event where the institute fails to fulfil and maintain norms as stipulated in Regulation of the Commission.

On 19 April 2023, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak announced that the dream of having a Medical college in Nagaland has come into reality after receiving the “Letter of Intent” from the Board while Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, H&FW, stated it was a historic day for the people of Nagaland to start Medical College after 60 years of Statehood.
