Union Finance Minister and Minister of Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, visited District Hospital, Kiphire on November 13 and flagged off five bike ambulances under the CSR initiative of the State Bank of India (SBI).
The formal programme at District Hospital Kiphire was chaired by Dr Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland. Dr. Watsutho Nyuthe, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, presented a brief review of the hospital’s progress and challenges.
The ceremonial handover of CSR initiatives of SBI took place in the presence of Rajesh Kumar, DMD, SBI, Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, and officials from the District Administration.
In her address, Sitharaman thanked the State Government, District Administration, and the medical team for their warm welcome. She stated that her visit aimed to hand over the CSR projects to improve healthcare facilities in Kiphire.
During her interaction with the hospital staff, they shared their concerns about the shortage of human resources and highlighted that the entire district depends on the only government hospital, as there is no private hospital in the area.
Sitharaman also shared her concern for Aspirational District and encouraged the state and district leaders to work towards it’s development and progress.

Medical equipments for Blood Bank worth Rs 5.81 lakhs and medical equipments for hospital worth Rs 59 lakhs, besides five nos of bike ambulances for Primary Health Centres of Kiphire District worth Rs 20 lakhs were also handed over under CSR initiative of the State Bank of India (SBI). Five multi-utility bike ambulances were also showcased under the initiative of SIDBI.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr R Wapang Imchen, Chief Medical Officer, Kiphire, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
He thanked the officials from Delhi, the State Government, media personnel, civil society organizations, the medical team, and all participants for making the event a success.
Later a cultural programme was organised in honour of the Union Minister at 14th NAP (IR) Bn, Kiphire at 6:30 p.m. where various vibrant and colourful cultural performance were performed by various artistes and cultural troupes. The cultural programme was chaired by Moalemla Aier.
On Friday, the Union Finance Minister would continue her engagements in Kiphire district and attend at least five important events. She would first interact with Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers and then launch the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan Programme.
In her third event on Friday, the Finance Minister would inaugurate the Government Industrial Training Institute at ITI Kiphire.

She would also attend the credit outreach programme at the Government High School ground in Kiphire, and on Friday afternoon, she would launch SAMARTH and Digital Hardware and interact with the students at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Kohima.
The Finance Minister would also present during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Telangana State Network (T-SAT) and the NIELIT.
On Saturday, November 15, Sitharaman would inaugurate the AI Centre of Excellence for Skilling at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur, and review the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Project at Niathu Resort.

Sitharaman arrived in Nagaland on Thursday morning on a three-day visit to attend a series of programmes, including the inauguration of various projects and interactions with different communities.
She was received by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang and other cabinet ministers at the Dimapur airport.
Welcoming Sitharaman to Nagaland, Rio said, “I welcome Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, to our state. We look forward to her valuable insights and guidance in further strengthening our developmental initiatives and economic growth. I wish her a pleasant stay in Nagaland.”
