The Nagaland National Pension System Government Service Employees Forum (NNPSGSEF) in line with the All India State government Employees Federation organized a protest rally on Friday outside Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima demanding the scrapping of New Pension Scheme and restoration of Old Pension Scheme.

A representation was also submitted to Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam at his office chamber after the protest.

Moanungsang Jamir, President speaking to media persons highlighted that the government has not responded to any of their earlier representations. He also said that the Government is only giving the rosy picture by increasing the Government tax from 10 percent to 14 percent however, he also said that they do not know where the money is as it not updated in the portal also.

In the representation to the Government of Nagaland, NNPSGSEF stated that it represented the 32,000 employees covered under the National Pension System. It criticised the government’s order of making employees appointed after 1st January 2000 to mandatorily subscribe the New Pension System.

“This has led to harming the interest of the employees whose benefits have been deprived from the Government by not granting any pension after retirement, even after giving their whole life for the development/progress of the State,” NNPSGSEF alleged.

Stating the differences between OPS and NPS, the Forum urged the government to consider reversion to the Old Pension Scheme so that all retired employees can obtain pension/family pension like all the employees appointed before the introduction of the New Pension System.
