The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, on Wednesday, informed that the no-confidence motion against Neikhozo Suokhrie, Chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and Khrielievi Chüsi, Deputy chairperson has been declared invalid.
In an order issued on October 22, DC B. Henok Buchem stated that a written notice expressing the intention to move a no-confidence motion against Suokhrie and Chüsi was received on October 9 in accordance with Section 15 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
In this regard, a meeting was convened on October 22 in the office of Kohima Municipal Council for consideration of the motion of no confidence. The meeting comprised of all elected members of the Kohima Municipal Council, excluding the ex-officio members and the nominated members.

During the meeting, it was ascertained that only six elected members were present. “Hence, the requisite quorum for the meeting, which requires attendance of more than one-half of the total number of elected members, as per Sub-Section 2 of Section 15 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, was not fulfilled,” mentioned the order.
The order further stated, ”therefore, in view of the above, the motion of no confidence against Shri. Khrielievi Chusi, Deputy Chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council has failed and is hereby declared null and void. The proceedings of the meeting stands dissolved.”
The order noted that both Neikhozo Suokhrie and Khrielievi Chusi will continue their roles as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council.
This declaration is issued for the information of all elected members of Kohima Municipal Council and shall be entered into the official records, notified the order.
