The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has issued a press release on March 22 clarifying that it has no intention or issued any directive to shut down any educational institution.
“Considering the impact of any bandh and its consequences on the future of the student community, the AYO does not intend to shut down any schools or institutions,” stated the press release issued by Kesosul Christopher Ltu, President and Neidilhoutuo Sechü, General Secretary.
The AYO clarified that on March 19, it conveyed the message to the Naga Students’ Federation, the Angami Students’ Union and a Mao Council representative to the Tenyimi People’s Organisation, that the educational institutions will not be affected. “But, it is unfortunate that two institutions, namely, Model Higher Secondary School and Model Christian College, owned by a person belonging to the Mao community, have dragged the name of the organisation stating that it is AYO’s directive to shut down the two institutions,” stated the AYO.

“On the advice of the Angami Public Organisation (APO), the AYO has been restraining ourselves from taking any action of extreme measure, despite the failure of the Manipur government and the Mao Council to address the APO’s ultimatum within the deadline served, that is 20th February 2024. However, taking into consideration the gravity of the current situation, the AYO has been cautioning the Mao citizens with a word of advice, that is, to remain vigilant before the APO’s ultimatum is addressed,” maintained the AYO.
Reiterating its stand in support of the ultimatum served by the APO, the AYO asserted that it will not hesitate to initiate any course of action if the Manipur Government continue to remain unresponsive to the demands raised by the APO.
Meanwhile, the AYO has also warned any stakeholder/party involved in this issue, “in particular the Mao Council, not to take advantage of the situation by playing the victim’s card.”
