Noklak: Joint Mountaineering Expedition to Mount Khelia flagged off

The 14th Assam Rifles has flagged off a Joint Mountaineering Expedition to climb Khelia King or Mount Khelia from Noklak under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and to promote tourism in the district. Mout Khelia is the second highest mountain in Nagaland situated in the Indo-Myanmar Border.

The mountaineers on Sunday moved out from Noklak to Choklangan where they will stay the night and begin their climb on Monday morning.  The mountaineers are expected to be back in Noklak by 25 April.

The Expedition Team consists of 37 participants including 20 Girls and 17 boys and Assam Rifles Personnel. 29 students in the team are from Tetso College Mountaineering Club headed by Prof. Dr. Anirudha Babar and 7 are NCC students of Government Higher Secondary School Noklak. Assistant Commandant Captain Ashok Kumar and his team are also part of the expedition.

The send-off ceremony was graced by Col. B. V Anand Reddy, Commandant of 14th Assam Rifles, Shamator in the presence of Arikumba, NCS, Deputy Commissioner Noklak, James Humtsoe, IPS, Superintendent of Police Noklak, Thungo, President, Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and Imkhong L, President 11 Wards Union.
