Peren district is on top of the medal tally at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games (NOPG) 2024 after Day 3 with 13 medals including 7 gold and 3 silver and bronze medals each. Kohima, Dimapur and Phek are tied with six gold medals each, however, Kohima has a total 19 medals, while Dimapur and Phek have 18 and 12 medals each.
Host Chümoukedima have so far won the highest number of medals. Its 20 medals include 5 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze. The district’s football team on Wednesday won Gold after beating Peren in the final match via penalties (3-1). The teams had earlier tied with 3 goals each.
In the other match, Phek defeated Dimapur 2 – 1 to attain the bronze medal.
Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland, graced the finals as the Chief Guest. The medals were presented by Abu Metha, Secretary General of the Nagaland Olympic Association.
Thejasier Khate on Wednesday won 3 gold medals in Tennis to put Mokokchung district in the 6th place on the medal tally. His golds came from Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Men’s Team Event.
Wokha district, despite of having won 12 medals, remains deprived of a gold on the third day of Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024.
Tseminyu and Zunheboto are yet to open their accounts.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Olympic Association informed today that in view of the ongoing academic examinations, the evening performances at the Olympic fest during the ongoing NOPG 2024 will be done away with. Accordingly, the Closing Ceremony of the Games on the 17th February, will also be held keeping in mind the ongoing academic examinations, NOA has said.
