A two-day North East State Government Employees and Teachers United Forum (NESGETUF) conference was held in Aizawl, Mizoram from March 12 to 13. A five member delegation of the Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employee’s Association (CANSSEA) led by its President, Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao attended the conference which was hosted by the Federation of Mizoram Government Employees and Workers.
The conference was aimed to bring a collective approach for justice, equality and better service in the North Eastern states. An important highlight of the meeting included forming of the Northeast co- ordination committee. It was decided that all the eight sister states will nominate three members each for the Committee. The Committee will be headed by Purujit Lairikye as the coordinator and the President of Assam State Employees Federation as the co-coordinator with its office headquarter to be based in Guwahati.
The formation of such a Committee has been long felt and is necessary in order to present a unified voice with the NE states undergoing similar problems, informed a press release. Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, in his short address, called on the Central Government to understand the uniqueness of the Northeast region comprising of the eight States viz; Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura calling it as geographically and strategically important to India.

“Unlike many mainland states, the region faces numerous development, administrative and infrastructure challenges due to its mountainous terrain, remoteness and limited connectivity. Government employees in these states play a crucial role in delivering good governance, implementing development programmes and maintaining Administrative Stability. Despite their contribution, employees often face common challenges such as service disparities, limited opportunities for career progression and inadequate representation of their issues at the national platforms. Against the backdrop, NESGETUF was formed 20 years ago for the unity of the Government employees across all Northeastern States bringing them under a unified common platform to address these challenges,” stated Tsanglao.
The only way forward, Tsanglao said, was to collaborate and work unitedly between the sister states sharing administrative innovation, policy approaches, initiate welfare measures for employees and create a common platform to safeguard employees rights and address grievances which can be worked together by strengthening of NESGETUF to represent the collective interest.
Prof Lalnilawma, Minister for Rural Development, who was the Chief guest at the evening cultural programme on March 12 called on the Government employees to give their best service as long as they serve the government. “The Government officers are the most privileged group of people, work to create a good legacy so that you will be remembered by the people for your good deeds and selfless service that you render now even long after you retire,” he said.
The keynote address was delivered by Subhash Lamba, President, All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) while the inaugural speech along with an outline of future Tasks & programmes of the AISGEF was delivered by A Sreekumar, AISGEF General Secretary. The NESGETUF delegates were enthralled by a colorful display of Mizo cultural performances and unmatched Mizo hospitality during the conference. The programme culminated with all the participants attending the Chapchar Kut celebration, the biggest festival of the Mizos which was held at Lammual, Aizawl on March 13.
