The Chairman of the Task Force For Music And Arts (TAFMA), Theja Meru, officially inaugurated the North Music Academy in Kohima on Thursday.
During the opening ceremony, Meru commended Neilakuonuo Metha, the academy’s proprietor, for her firm dedication in bringing her vision to life. He described her as an influential and effective individual who connects meaningfully with people, as well as a talented singer.
Meru expressed hope that many aspiring musicians would benefit from Metha’s guidance and musical journey.
Highlighting the growth of the music scene in Nagaland, the Chairman noted the presence of about a hundred music schools across the state, considering it a positive sign of progress.
Meru also referenced the CEO of Rock School London, who remarked on the “exceptional quality of music in Nagaland,” emphasizing the significant opportunities available to emerging musicians.

In her address, Metha attributed the successful launch of her music academy to the steadfast support of her family, whom she acknowledged as a constant pillar throughout her musical endeavors.
She recounted how she was able to pursue her passion for music and undertake a bachelor’s degree in the field, deviating from more conventional academic paths.
Metha reiterated that establishing a music academy was a long-held dream and vision shared with her family. She expressed her hope that the institute would become a nurturing hub for musical excellence and a welcoming home for aspiring musicians, going beyond its role as just an academy.
Earlier in the program, Zakiebeituo Metha, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, Kohima, invoked blessings upon the occasion. He acknowledged God’s grace upon the proprietor for realizing her vision, which he affirmed as her calling. He prayed that the academy would serve as a place for learning and talent development.
The event was chaired by Thejasilie Metha, pastor of TUBC, Tseminyu, and Nounengu Whuorie presented a special musical performance.
The North Music Academy, located on Secretariat Road, will offer instruction in musical theory and various instruments, including guitar, drums, piano, violin, and ukulele. It was also announced that lessons on the Tati, a unique one-stringed Naga traditional instrument, will be introduced at the academy in the coming days.
