The National Service Scheme (NSS) Sao Chang college organized a special camp under the theme “Not Me But You” in the adopted village, Khudei, Tuensang from 6-9 April 2023.
The activities of the camp included conducting of survey in every household, attending and participating in the church services, visiting fields and interacting with cultivators, learning traditional crafts from the village leaders and elders, interaction with the youths of the village, cleanliness drive, plantation of tree saplings and distribution of stationeries and food items.
Day-1, Interaction with Village Council
On the first day on reaching the spot, the campers were welcomed by the Village Council which was followed by an interaction with them and highlighting the various events of the NSS camp. The chairman of the Khudei Village council, B. Chejing assured of cooperation and support for the greater welfare of the community.
Thereafter, the volunteers were disbursed to conduct survey on “Survey of Youth Not in Formal Education or Regular Employment” as directed by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
Plantation of tree saplings was also done after procuring it from the Forest Department, Tuensang.
Day-2, Good Friday service
The activity of the second day started with the visit of the church leaders led by Rev. T. Chongshen. There was a time of prayer and interaction. It was followed by attending of Good Friday Service by all the campers.
The day’s activities included recreational activities, interactions and competitions and cleanliness drive.
Day-3, Visit to agriculture field
On the third day, the NSS volunteers visited agriculture field and interacted with farmers to get first hand understanding of the prevailing agricultural practices and techniques of agriculture, crops, production and transport. It was followed by skill learning of traditional crafts.
Day-4, Easter Sunday service
Easter Morning Sunday School service was conducted by the volunteers in collaboration with the Evangelical Union, Sao Chang College which was followed by attending of Easter devotional service where the volunteers presented a song and the Programme Officer, Shilumongla T Sangtam also gave an address highlighting the activities of the NSS, growing environmental concerns and also on educational upliftment and also conveyed the vote of thanks.
Seminar for Youths
After the church service was concluded, a seminar was conducted for the youths of the village with NSS committee member Y Toninaro Changpo was the resource person. Changpo spoke on social upliftment and the youth as an important agent for the upliftment and progress of any community/society. Career guidance was also provided to the youths of the village.
The event concluded with experience sharing and prayer with the officials of Khudei Students’ Union.
