The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has condemned the alleged coercing of Kanili Kinilimi, INC candidate for Dimapur Ward 7, by H Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, Government of Nagaland, that has led to Kinilimi to withdraw her candidature from the forthcoming Dimapur Municipal Council elections.

In a press release, the NPCC has accused the BJP leader of “blatant abuse of power” by offering the Congress’ ex-intending candidate a “Nominated Members berth.”

“Such undemocratic practices aimed at subverting the will of the people should not be tolerated and should be denounced in the strongest possible terms by all right thinking citizens,” the Party stated. It also urged the State Election Commission and the Government of Nagaland to initiate necessary action for prompt delivery of justice and win back the confidence of the electorate of the affected Ward no 7 of Dimapur Municipal Council and the State in general.
