The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and the District Congress Committee Kohima (DCC) along with remaining DCCs Nagaland organized a protest against the proposed Bill to repeal the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The NPCC said, “MGNREGA is a lifeline for rural people. It gives guaranteed work, supports poor families, and helps people earn with dignity. For many villages in Nagaland and across India, this Act is the main source of income during hard times.”
During the protest, leaders and workers said that repealing MGNREGA would hurt farmers, daily wage earners, women, and the poorest sections of society. It would increase unemployment and push many families into deeper hardship.
The speakers reminded that MGNREGA has helped people during natural disasters, economic crises, and emergencies. Removing this Act would mean turning away from the needs of rural India, they added.

The NPCC and Kohima DCC strongly demanded that the Government withdraw the Bill and protect MGNREGA. They called for strengthening the scheme with proper funding and timely payment of wages instead of ending it.
The Congress party reiterated its stand in defending the rights, dignity, and livelihood of rural people.
