Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded immediate suspension of Enoch Wotsa from the Dimapur Municipal Council pending full investigation, as well as filing of criminal proceedings against him and his associates under relevant sections of applicable laws.

It also demanded a high-level inquiry into the misuse of government vehicles for illegal activities, fixing accountability on all responsible authorities.

It may be mentioned that Enoch Wotsa, a government nominated Councillor of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) was apprehended by Khatkhati Police (Assam) in the early hours of August 13 while reportedly transporting a large quantity of alcohol in a government registered vehicle along with two private vehicles.

Expressing shock and condemnation over the “disgraceful conduct” of the DMC Councillor, the NPCC said this incident is not merely a legal violation, it is a blatant betrayal of public trust.

Wotsa, who also serves as the Vice President of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Youth Wing in Dimapur, has brought irreparable shame to the people of Nagaland by misusing state resources and blatantly flouting the law, the NPCC stated.

The NPCC reiterated its commitment to ethical governance and the rule of law and said it stand with the people of Nagaland in demanding justice and accountability.

The government must act swiftly to restore public confidence and demonstrate that no one is above the law, it added.
