The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has questioned the decision of the Election Commission of India to change the date of counting votes for the State of Mizoram and not Nagaland’s 43 Tapi Assembly Constituency where by poll was conducted. The EC had on Friday announced that the vote counting in Mizoram will take place on 4th December 2023 (Monday) as the previously scheduled date falls on a Sunday.

Stating that the party too had sent a representation to the EC requesting for revision of the counting date for the constituency in Mon district, NPCC regretted that the appeal did not receive a positive response.
“Now the question is, when both Nagaland and Mizoram are Christian – Majority states, what additional criteria was considered by the Election Commission of India to conclude that it was okay to respect the religious sentiments of the people of Mizoram but not so of those of Nagaland,” NPCC stated in its press release.
Further, the Congress party criticized Nagaland Government for not pursuing the matter with EC and asked “when will the government and the parties of the day in the state take some time out of their festive mood and emulate their counterparts from Mizoram in raising the real and pressing issues of its constituents?”
