NPCC to field Wanglem Konyak in 43-Tapi bye-election

Kohima: Wanglem had lost to Late Noke by 82 votes in the Assembly election held in March this year

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday handed party ticket to its intending candidate Wanglem Konyak, for the upcoming bye-election to 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency. The ticket distribution ceremony was held at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.

Intending Congress candidate Wanglem expressed his gratitude to the Congress central and state party for reposing faith on his candidature. Konyak, seeking support of his constituency people, said if he is voted to power, he will do his best in developing his constituency and the state as a whole.

Konyak, had contested as a Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate from the same constituency against Late Noke Wangnao in the state general elections held earlier this year. He had lost to Late Noke by 82 votes.

Konyak, will be filing his nomination papers tomorrow.

NPCC State President Supongmeren Jamir, said today the state leaders of the Congress have committed its re-affirmation to jointly fight for the cause of the Nagas and especially reverence for 43-Tapi assembly constituency. Jamir said, “The party has decided to work for the grassroot people and having commitment, the party is sending a candidate with a hope that the people will extend its support and that congress will come with a big victory to start with.”
