The Naga People’s Front, Kohima on October 20 held its traditional Central Executive Council meeting at Kohima at the NPF central Office Kohima.

Chief Minister and leader of NPF Dr. Neiphiu Rio expressed honour and privilege to address the gathering of the Central Executive Council among his colleagues and comrades with whom he had shared a long and eventful political journey — one marked by challenges, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to the cause of the Naga people.

“I come before you today with a renewed commitment to our shared ideals and to the future of the Naga people,” said Dr. Rio.

Placing his records and appreciation, Dr. Rio acknowledged his colleagues Apong Pongener, President NPF , Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, for their vision and commitment for our Nagas. He also thanked the founding members, pioneers, party leaders, rank and file of both the NDPP and NPF for reposing their faith in his leadership and for their steadfast support and cooperation throughout this transition.

This party, he said, has the history of the longest and the first regional part in the north east and the second longest registered party in the country.

Dr. Rio stressed that if any leader can uphold the ideologies, the principles, and commitment given to serve the people, they can grow from strength to strength and also unite the people, even in days to come.

“We have to do maximum justice to one another and also uphold Nagas above individuals or group ism. As I stand here, I cannot help but look back at the long and eventful journey that has brought us together once again, under the banner of the Naga people’s front,” expressed Rio.

In his speech, the Chief Minister spoke extensively on his political journey.

He extended his gratefulness to the NPF leaders that their 6th September Resolution requested him and his colleagues, and the party to rejoin the NPF to strengthen the party and to work earnestly for the people. “To be part of a regional party is not always an easy path — it demands sacrifice, conviction, and resilience. Yet, it is essential if we are to preserve and promote the unique voice of the Naga people within the Indian Union. And so keeping aside individual interest, and for the sake of the party and people, have come together again,” stated Rio.

The Chief Minister also said that since 2003, the party have maintained a strategic alliance with the BJP, recognizing the importance of partnership for governance and development. While regional identity remains their priority, Dr. Rio viewed that pragmatism requires that the party continue to work in alliance with a national party to safeguard the interests of Nagaland and ensure stability and progress for our people.

“Friends, the past few years have been a time of political realignments and reflection. And therefore  today we have come to a point and we are stepping after your COP AND CEC decision we will be attaining the NPF general convention. And that letter will go to election commission for recognition and then we will function fully and effectively as NPF,” he said .

Rio also reminded that the challenges before are many — socio-economic development, youth empowerment, employment generation, and above all, the long-cherished goal of an honourable and lasting Naga political solution. But he firmly believed that with a united vision and sincere leadership, no goal is beyond their reach.

Looking ahead, he hoped that the party rise above differences, guided by the ideals that first inspired the NPF – “Peace for Development and Development for Peace.”

He emphasized on reviving the spirit of regionalism with inclusivity, compassion, and purpose. Dr. Rio addde that the strength lies in unity — unity of thought, unity of purpose, and unity of action.

President Apong Pongener in his welcome address expressed his gratitude and joy at the gathering of MLAs, stating, “Seeing many MLAs present reminds me of 2013 led by CM Dr. Rio. We were 38 MLAs 12 years ago. Yesterday, we had only two MLAs along with us, but today, by God’s grace, he has brought so many MLAs to our front. And all together, the members are 34.”

Pongener welcomed new members, saying, “This is like homecoming. Many legislators and members, you may be new, but I welcome the new members amongst the legislatures. This is our home. Feel homely, and we will be here together always.” He emphasized the importance of upholding the legacy of the party’s founding members, highlighting the party’s rich history as the oldest regional party.

The President expressed his commitment to serving together with the new members, stating, “Our future is most important.” The gathering was filled with a sense of unity and camaraderie, as the members came together to forge a new path forward.

Earlier during the meeting short speeches were delivered by prominent leaders, including MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu, Working Presidents Samuel Risom and Pusazo Lürüo. The gathering was chaired by Sr. Vice President Khongjah Konyak.
