The General Convention of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) unanimously approved a historic merger with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). The convention elected Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio as party President for 2025–2030.

Over 5,000 members endorsed the merger and a new leadership team, expressing full confidence in Rio.

The NPF also reaffirmed its commitment to its state and national alliances to accelerate development and pursue a lasting, honourable settlement to the Naga political issue.

The Convention also resolved to extend full confidence and support to Rio’s leadership as both the Chief Minister of Nagaland and the President of the NPF. It placed on record deep appreciation for the “bold decision” of the NDPP under its President, Chingwang Konyak, and for Rio’s “sagacious guidance” in facilitating the historic unification of the two regional parties into a single, stronger political entity.

Further, the Convention reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to strengthening the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland while remaining an active constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). The party resolved to continue consolidating these alliances with the aim of accelerating inclusive development, ensuring progress in all sectors, and contributing to the achievement of genuine peace in Nagaland and Manipur.

On the Naga political issue, the Convention underscored that an early and honourable settlement of the protracted negotiations was indispensable to enable Naga youth to participate meaningfully in development and self-reliance. It urged the Government of India and the Naga political groups to expedite the process and reach a solution that is “honourable, acceptable, and inclusive.”

The Convention also expressed gratitude for the prayerful support of the Church, the moral encouragement of the general public, and the goodwill of elders and pioneers of the party, while appealing for continued support from all sections of society in the years ahead.

Reiterating its earlier resolutions, the Convention called upon all former members and regionally minded citizens to join the NPF in the greater interest of the Naga people.

The General Convention, held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, coincided with the 63rd Foundation Day of the party. As per Notification No. NPF-3/Meeting/2024-2028/112, dated September 18, 2025, a total of 5,000 active members of the party participated in the event.
